Maneuvering
- The ROV will be going through multiple hoops underwater
- this signifies the exploration of the ocean and its organisms, and how we should be able to explore without harming the marine environment
- the size of the hoop limits the size of our ROV that we must be aware of. The size must be under 59 centimeters
- We will prioritize going through the hoops twice rather than trying to be first. The possibility of coming back first will be low, and so it will be better if we focus on accuracy
Coral Reef Restoration
- The goal of this challenge is to remove an endangered species of coral to a designated area where they will prosper
- Max time for this challenge: 4 mins
- Coral weighs 40.24 grams
- In order to gain points it is important for the ROV to move the specimen in the designated area (the pcv pipe square)
- We could put a long metal, wooder, or plastic object on the tip of the ROV, and put it through the hole of the coral in order to pick it up
Specimen Collection
- Schworoctupse weighs 58.14 grams
- Max time is 4 minutes
- The width of the machine that will grab this creature must be wide enough to pick it up
- High priority task due to the high amount of points
- We could use the dust sweeper method, where we sweep the octopus into a dustpan and bring them up to the surface
Oil Well Repair
- In order to complete this task we must plug the busted pipe from an oil rig
- Oil cap weighs over 200 grams
- Max time: 3 mins
- In order to gain points, we must completely cap the pipe. 10 points if successful
- In order to complete this task, we plan to use a malleable clothes hanger (such as a wired hanger) so that we can shape it to look like a hook to capture the cap through the string and onto the pipe
